The preliminary rounds for ASD’s grade competitions are now finished for 2025. We hope that you and your students have enjoyed the competition, and that the students have been able to develop their critical thinking, and public speaking skills.
Huge thanks to all of the teachers, coaches, and adjudicators who make Auckland Schools Debating possible. We would not be able to run the competition without all of your time and effort. Particular thanks to our host school coordinators for generously providing venues for the competitions.
Breaking Teams
This year 387 teams from 50 schools participated in ASD’s grade competitions. Breaking in a competition of this size is a significant achievement. Congratulations to all teams for their exceptional achievements.
The break for each division can be viewed through the links below:
Information on how the break is calculated can be found on our website linked here: http://auckland schools debating.org.nz/index.php/
Grade convenors will contact breaking teams to finalise arrangements for the relevant Octo and Quarter Finals.
Upcoming Dates
We’d love to see your schools enter teams in ASD’s two remaining weekend competitions for the year. They are:
- The Junior Championships (2nd and 3rd of August).
- Entries close Wednesday 30 July. This is ASD’s weekend tournament for year 9 and 10 students. It provides a great chance for new speakers to try debating, or more experienced juniors to get experience before the break rounds.
- The Impromptu Cup (16th and 17th of August).
- Entries will open early term 3. This tournament uses the fast paced impromptu debating format. It’s a great chance for teams to practice debating in a different style, and always a highlight of the year.
Everyone is also invited to the ASD Prizegiving and Premier Advanced final on Wednesday 17 September which will be a great chance to celebrate the year’s achievements and watch a high quality debate.
