Auckland University Debating Society

The Debating Society is one of the largest, and oldest, clubs at the University of Auckland.  It offers debating for everyone, from beginners to competitive tournament debaters.   ASD shares a strong connection with the Debsoc: Debsoc members are often adjudicators, coaches and committee members for ASD, so you’ve probably already seen them around the place.  Click here for more details.

This year, Debsoc is offering a special tier of membership for schools students free of charge.  This includes:

  • Invitations to  all of our public debates.  These feature prominent members of the community – from MP Shane Jones to retired Supreme Court Justice Sir Ted Thomas – our best university debaters, and canapes aplenty.
  • An invitation to a “school students evening” early in the fourth term.  You can attend a seminar and question and answer session about the Debsoc, debate with and be adjudicated by our best university debaters, and take advantage of the free drinks and nibbles!
  • Attendance at the finals rounds of any tournaments hosted in Auckland.

Debsoc membership will improve your ASD debating and smooth the transition into university debating when you leave school.  Click here to sign up.
