If you are the TIC of Debating at your school and would like to register your school to compete in the Auckland Schools Debating Competition for 2012, first read the important information below. To enter teams, click on the link at the bottom of this page.

Premier Advanced Grade – $80.00 per team

The Premier Advanced Grade takes place on Wednesday nights with debates at 6:30pm and 8:00pm. In 2012 debates will take place at Auckland Grammar School. There is a maximum limit of five speakers for the Premier Advanced Grade and only one team per school. Speakers must be in Year 13 or below.

Premier Junior Grade – $80.00 per team

The Premier Junior Grade takes place on Wednesday nights with debates at 6:30pm and 8:00pm. In 2012 debates will take place at TBA. There is a maximum limit of five speakers for the Premier Junior Grade and only one team per school. Speakers must be in Year 11 or below.

Advanced Open Grade – $80.00 per team

The Advanced Open Grade takes place on Tuesday nights with debates at 6:30pm and 8:00pm. In 2012 debates will take place at two central locations – St Cuthbert’s College and Mount Albert Grammar School. There is a maximum limit of seven speakers for the Advanced Open Grade and teams must have at least four speakers. Schools may enter four teams only. Speakers must be in Year 13 or below.

Senior Open Grade – $35.00 per team

The Senior Open Grade takes place on Tuesday afternoons with debates at 4:30pm and 5:45pm. In 2012 debates will take place in five zoned locations more information can be found by clicking on the “venues” link above. There is a maximum limit of seven speakers for the Senior Open Grade and teams must have at least four speakers. Schools may enter four teams only. Speakers must be in Year 12 or below.

Please note that coaches assigned to each team in the Senior Open grade have adjudicating responsibilities. These are compulsory and not optional. To find out more about these, please refer to our rules which can be found under the “competition” link in the menu above.

Junior Open Grade – $35.00 per team

The Junior Open Grade takes place on Monday afternoons with debates at 4:30pm and 5:45pm. In 2012 debates will take place in five zoned locations more information can be found by clicking on the “venues” link above. There is a maximum limit of seven speakers for the Junior Open Grade and teams must have at least four speakers. Schools may enter four teams only. Speakers must be in Year 10 or below.

Compulsory School Fee – $70.00

Each school must pay the compulsory school fee of $70.00. This is to assist with ongoing costs associated with the competition.

If you are paying the registration fee by a direct credit through online banking, please use the following details:

If you are paying the registration fee by cheque, cheques should be made payable to Auckland Schools Debating. Please write your school name and the TIC’s name on the back of the cheque.

Entry Form

The entry form has six pages. You must click the “continue” button at the bottom of each page, and then click the “submit” button on the sixth page to complete the registration. Please be patient while the form loads.

  • Number of teams entered for each grade
  • Teacher In Charge name
  • Teacher In Charge email address
  • Teacher In Charge phone number
  • Payment preference
  • Coach name for each team
  • Coach email address for each team
  • Coach adjudicating preference for coaches in the Junior Open and Senior Open grades (whether they wish to adjudicate at the same time as when their team debates, or at a different time, or no preference)
