We are now opening entries for our annual Impromptu Cup tournament. Please submit your entries by responding to this email by Friday 19th June.
The Impromptu Cup is a great opportunity for students to become more confident in their debating skills, and to improve their ability to develop detailed arguments in a short space of time. Students compete in teams of two, and are given five minutes preparation time for their debate. Speeches are also five minutes long, with no points of information, and replies are two and a half minutes long. Although the format sounds challenging, it is also a lot of fun. There will be a detailed presentation on the style at the beginning of the tournament, and a show debate featuring some of the University of Auckland’s best debaters, so teams should not be intimidated.
